TechMOlogy

New technologies and cross-border networks for mobility
Priority Axis 1

Promoting innovation capacities for a more competitive area

Specific Objective:
OS 1.1.
Investment Priority:
PI 1b
Typology:
Standard
Overall Objective of the Project:

Promote new models of business-research cooperation based on 3 principles - public-private co-investment, open innovation, shared economy - to strengthen digital skills and the use of enabling technologies in the mobility chain. TechMOlogy will support the transfer of know-how on emerging technologies crucial for the automotive sector towards smaller companies, which represent the main turnover, contributing to the development of new products and services.

Project summary:

TechMOlogy creates the preconditions for increasing the use of Industry 4.0 key enabling technologies (KETs) in companies, especially small ones, operating in the mobility value chain. New models of research-business collaboration will be developed and tested based on the principles of open innovation, public-private co-investment and sharing of research structures in the programme area. By facilitating accessibility to KETs and supporting SMEs in the development of new products and services based on them, it will be supported the transformation process towards Industry 4.0 of those companies with very high quality artisan know-how at risk of disappearance, which represent one of the main assets of the cross-border economy. The focus of the project on the mobility industries is due to their strategic weight in terms of number of employees / companies, high value-added niche work, available professional skills. Being technology-intensive sectors, a greater ability to align business models with those of smart manufacturing by including KETs will generate an improvement in the competitive positioning of the entire area, qualifying the digital skills of the workforce and promoting investments in R&I.

Main results:

The main expected result of TechMOlogy is a general strengthening of cross-border cooperation between the key players of innovation system on the basis of new models and services, developed jointly during the project and adopted primarily by project partners. The new models will be aimed at a greater involvement of enterprises, especially small ones, in the mobility sector, also through the strengthening of clusters.
The results for project’s beneficiaries are:
- Establishment of a permanent observatory on most relevant emerging and future technologies in mobility and automotive sector in particular
- Building lasting formal and informal collaborations, for optimizing the use of available knowledge and tools in the convergent smart manufacturing specialization sector
- Testing of new approaches (design thinking, industrial challenges) to support competitiveness
- The impact/ results for indirect stakeholders are:
- Improvement of knowledge and 4.0 technological skills among operators of small industries, especially those with an artisanal know-how at risk of disappearing
- New business models for companies in the mobility sector based on the inclusion of enabling technologies
- Collaborations between large companies, innovative startups and research centers
- New services and products developed thanks to the acquired skills, with potential application also in public services
- Possible investments in eco-innovation stimulated by demand
