On Sunday, December 8, families with children took part in a geocaching event, exploring the geodiversity of the cross-border area of the aspiring Kras-Carso Geopark. The event took place near the Bazovica-Lipica border crossing. The first part of the geocaching event was held in the building of the former Lipica border crossing, which will become the future headquarters of the European Group for Territorial Cooperation (EGTC). Geologists and other experts from the geopark helped participants discover the geological diversity and fossils in the area using microscopes and other tools. In the second part, young explorers used a map to find their way, answer questions, and, through play, learn about the geodiversity of the Karst region. Upon successful completion, the young geo-explorers were rewarded with a stone medal, featuring fossil remnants from the area. The geocaching event was organized by ORA Krasa in Brkinov, the Geological Service of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Škocjan Caves Park, Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation (Zavod RS za varstvo narave), and Curiosi di natura organization. The event was part of the strategic project KRAS-CARSO II, co-financed by the European Union in the framework of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 Programme.
