On 24 and 25 October 2024, the one-day Newborn Life Support (NLS) Course was held in Postojna. Three healthcare professionals from Izola General Hospital attended the course.
The course is recognized by the European Resuscitation Council and is intended for doctors, midwives, and registered nurses who work with newborns in the delivery room. It includes basic knowledge and skills for essential and advanced neonatal resuscitation procedures.
The first part of the course consisted of lectures on the importance of ventilation and the continued care of the newborn. This was followed by practical workshops with scenarios of the most common complications that may occur during childbirth. Participants learned various techniques for clearing the airway and successfully initiating newborn ventilation.
A doctor and two certified midwives from Izola General Hospital successfully completed the NLS course, with their participation funded by the AidMIRE project, Interreg VI-A Italy- Slovenia Programme 2021–2027.
