On April 22, 2024, at the Ivan Babiča-Jagra Elementary School in Marezige (SLO), the Purissima Mediterranean Garden brought together children, teachers, and parents through interactive workshops aimed at exploring and protecting nature. Under the theme "Earth Day," students immersed themselves in the world of Mediterranean flora through playful and sensory experiences.
The centerpiece of the event was a workshop where students identified the scents of typical Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary, thyme, mint, oregano, sage, and lavender. Their knowledge earned them a sweet reward in the form of juicy strawberries from the Purissima Garden, which delighted them.
With the aim of preserving Mediterranean vegetation, a workshop on making seed bombs was also organized. These small clay balls contained seeds of Mediterranean plants and symbolized hope for biodiversity conservation. Children scattered them at home in their gardens or in places needing a touch of beauty. When the rain fell, the clay dissolved, and the soil will ensure that the seeds germinate, contributing to a more beautiful environment.
Earth Day reminds us of the importance of environmental conservation, and this event was an excellent example of how every individual, including children, can contribute to nature conservation. By making and planting 200 seed bombs, the students demonstrated their commitment to respecting the environment and preserving biodiversity.
