Project summary

Policy objective: PO1 - A more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional ICT connectivity

Specific objective: SO1 - Developing and enhancing research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies

Typology: Capitalization project

Rare immune mediated paediatric diseases in the Programme Area may have different diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Different treatment approaches and different diagnostic tools were used by the two main paediatric hospital of the Programme Area. Thanks to CATTEDRA “CollAborazione TransfronTaliEra per Diagnosi innovative di patologie Rare in pediatriA” project, financed by the 4th call of the Programme INTERREG VA Italy-Slovenia 2014-2020, a network of hospital, research centres and SMEs was established and tackled this issue in the Programme Area by harmonising the clinical approaches and the treatment strategies of the two clinical centres as well as developing feasibility studies of new diagnostics test.

Objectives

The CONCERTO project "CrossbOrder Network for Children ReumaTolOgy" aims to improve, capitalise and disclose some of the results of the CATTEDRA project. In particular, CONCERTO intends to further develop in the programme area a jointly produced database of paediatric patients suffering from immune-mediated rare diseases.

Output

WP1

Development of the cross-border database on immune-mediated diseases in children

Objectives

The specific objectives of our activities were:
- to carry out follow-up work on the cross-border database on immune-mediated diseases in children;
- to transfer the database to the Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital in Udine (ASU FC);
- to disseminate the new database to relevant stakeholders.

Deliverables

Database 2.0

The database of rare immune-mediated diseases in children within the programme area has been enhanced with new data and new functions that will improve its effectiveness for both clinical and research purposes.

Link to the database

Guidelines for the transfer of the database on immune-mediated diseases in children

A document setting out the necessary steps and obligations that an interested organisation must fulfil to apply to receive a database transfer. It also contains instructions for end-users on entering clinical and therapeutic data.

The database as a tool for scientific research

Researchers within the partnership have used the database to publish scientific articles on immune-mediated diseases in children within the Programme Area.

Results achieved

Database transfer

The partnership successfully carried out a pilot project to open the database of rare diseases in children within the Programme Area at the Santa Maria della Misericordia Hospital in Udine.

Guidelines for the transfer of the database on immune-mediated diseases in children

The consortium formalised a jointly developed solution, namely the procedure required to transfer the database to other institutions, as well as instructions for data entry for doctors.

CONCERTO Network

The project partners confirmed their intention to continue working on the CONCERTO project by signing a letter of intent on the day of the final event.

WP2

Capitalisation of the feasibility study for a diagnostic tool for rare paediatric diseases

Objectives

The specific objective of this work package was to carry out activities to improve the diagnostic test developed within the CATTEDRA project.

Deliverables

Assessment of the state of the art of the new diagnostic tool and roadmap for its improvement

The document, written by DSM with input from the partners, consists of an analysis of the work produced during the previous project and a roadmap of the activities to be carried out to improve the tool.

New feasibility study of a diagnostic tool for rare childhood diseases

The deliverable consists of a report summarising all activities carried out to improve the feasibility study.

Report on the final CONCERTO medical conference

The report contains minutes, presentations, attendance lists and all documents necessary to verify the conduct of the final event.

Output

Integrating new technologies into the feasibility study

The pilot action was developed and consists of trials carried out to implement the advanced technologies owned by the University of Trieste (biosensors) in the feasibility study already produced as part of the CATTEDRA project.

The improved transnational feasibility study

The pilot action led to the joint development of a new feasibility study, enhanced through the introduction of new technologies. The new solution and the actions required to enhance it were outlined in the deliverable concerning the improvement of the diagnostic tool.

CONCERTO Network

The project partners confirmed their intention to continue working on the CONCERTO project by signing a letter of intent on the day of the final event.
