As part of the E-NAT2CARE project, Škocjan Caves Park Slovenia, in collaboration with the National Institute of Biology, is organizing an event to introduce the Ural Owl (Strix uralensis) and the Alpine Longhorn Beetle (Rosalia alpina).

The event will take place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 9:00 AM at the Promotional Congress Center Pr Nanetovh, Matavun 8, 6215 Divača.

The Ural Owl and the Alpine Longhorn Beetle are identified as bioindicators—indicators of habitat conservation status and biodiversity. A favorable condition of these species reflects a healthy habitat, ensuring their survival and enabling timely and effective measures for the preservation and restoration of protected areas in the future.

Presenters Stiven Kocijančič and Andrej Kapla from the National Institute of Biology will discuss the importance of preserving old forest stands, monitoring these two species, and measures to improve their habitats. We will also venture into the field to observe specific conservation actions implemented by Škocjan Caves Park Slovenia for monitoring both species. This includes viewing the "Rosalium"—a pyramid of fresh logs designed for observing the Alpine Longhorn Beetle in its natural environment—and visiting one of the nesting boxes installed for the Ural Owl, our largest cavity-nesting bird.

The event aims to enhance understanding of biodiversity and its integration into planning and management of protected areas in the cross-border region. The workshop offers an excellent opportunity for knowledge transfer and engagement of key stakeholders and various public audiences at local and regional levels to create a balance between nature conservation and quality of life.
