580 kg of Waste Collected to Become Urban Furniture
The Municipality of Spinea, through the RECREATE project funded by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme, in collaboration with VERITAS SpA and the Bacino Venezia Ambiente Council, has collected almost 600 kg of fiber-reinforced composite (CFR) waste. Involved in the months of April, May, and June, the citizens have shown sensitivity and commitment to the municipality's environmental sustainability initiatives. The collected waste will be used to create innovative urban furniture. The experimentation will then be extended to Italian and Slovenian municipalities to encourage the adoption of good recycling practices.
For the first time in Italy, thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality of Spinea and Veritas Spa, it was possible to collect fiber-reinforced composite waste and start the recycling process. CFR waste is currently not recycled or recovered by Italian environmental and waste management companies due to the complexity of the materials that compose them, such as hard plastics, metals, and fiberglass.
The Extraordinary Commissioner of the Municipality of Spinea, Dr. Paola De Palma, commented: "This is an experimental and innovative project that can be replicated in the future for the recovery of fiber-reinforced composites (CFR), which will have a new life instead of remaining waste."
