On May 17, 2024 the Škocjan caves Park staff visited the Pregarje elementary school. 35 children from the entire school were waiting for us there. First, we said something about karst ponds, why they were built in the past and what purpose they serve today. We went together to two ponds, which are near their school. Then we sampled the ponds with a hand net and looked at which animals were caught. We found newts, frog tadpoles, dragonfly larvae, water striders, water scorpion, Mayfly nymph and freshwater snails. The students diligently observed what was happening in the mud and they also noticed the grass snake. After the field work, we returned to school and imprinted our memories with drawings and colouring pages.

At this year's Belajtnga (cave festival of the Škocjan Caves Park), which is celebrated every last Sunday in May, as part of the varied program, we also presented our project ENGREEN 2. At the workshop, visitors learned about the green infrastructure of the project area with the help of modeling clay. They made karst ponds, dry walls and ice houses. They also had prints of animals that are often found in the area.
