For several years now, the Interreg Slovenia-Italy Cross-border Cooperation Programme has been organising the presentation of its projects in Brussels as part of the European Week of Regions and Cities in October. This year, Inter Bike presented itself for the second time. The event brought together representatives of tourism projects from the Italy-Slovenia and Italy-Croatia cross-border programmes for the first time. Moreover, the projects presented themselves to the European Commission. The main guest was Slawomir Tokarski from the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy.
The main theme of this year's event was "slow crossing" the three border areas of Croatia, Italy and Slovenia in the light of sustainable tourism. Seventeen participating projects are introducing services for tourists, organising training events for tourism stakeholders, working on the protection of the environment from the excessive impact of tourism, and proposing adaptations to the tourist operators for people with special needs. The opening speeches by the guests and the presentation of the projects were followed by group work. Inter Bike III participated in the Sustainable Mobility in Tourism group, which also included the Interreg VI-A IT-SI strategic projects Adrioncycleotour and Poseidone, and the Croatian-Italian projects Value Plus and Adriainclusive. The projects have identified many opportunities for cooperation, such as investments in tourism infrastructure, the introduction of new bus and boat services, joint events and training, and efforts to encourage tourism providers to adapt their programmes to people with disabilities.
