Florence, Ravenna, November 12, 2024 – Employees of the project partners participated in a study visit to Florence and the Emilia-Romagna region from November 5 to 7, 2024. This visit was organized in the scope of the DANTE project – Sustainable and flexible cultural practices for an innovative and integrated offer of literary tourism, co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy - Slovenia 2021–2027 Programme.
Twelve representatives from six project partners participated in the three-day study trip: besides the lead partner, the Municipality of Izola, there were also the Tolmin Museum, the Institute IRRIS for Research, Development and Strategies of Society, Culture and Environment
As well as representatives from three Italian partners—Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Municipality of Tolmezzo, and Municipality of Ceggia. The purpose of the study trip was to observe best practices of The Dante’s Walk (In Italian Il Cammino di Dante) in the cities of Florence and Ravenna in the Emilia Romagna region, to examine their operations, and to create synergies with the cross-border DANTE literary route, which will be developed based on five interactive interpretative cultural itineraries following a storytelling methodology. The study trip also provided an opportunity to network with the creators of the Dante’s Walk (In Italian Il Cammino di Dante) to facilitate planning for the cross-border DANTE literary tourism route in Italy and Slovenia.
On the first day of the study trip, participants explored the Tuscan capital on a guided thematic tour called “Dante Alighieri’s Florence”, which included statues of the poet Dante Alighieri throughout the city, Dante’s neighbourhood, the Baptistery of San Giovanni (Saint-John) and the Dante’s House Museum. The second day was dedicated to discovering the city of Ravenna in Emilia Romagna, by visiting to the tomb of poet and writer Dante Alighieri, the Franciscan Monastery, and the Basilica of San Francesco, which are related to Dante’s literary heritage. The second day’s activities also included a study session with an in-depth analysis of the Dante’s Path best practices, organized by representatives of the association Associazione Il Cammino di Dante. On the third day, the participants finished their study trip with a visit to Ravenna’s UNESCO World Heritage sites, focusing on the city's renowned mosaics.
The project partners of DANTE will apply and capitalize on the best practices observed and the acquired knowledge in future project activities, as well as in planning and execution of other literary tourism projects.
