In its final phase, a joint cross-border exercise of civil protection units, including firefighters and rescuers will be planned and carried out in the territory of Gorizia and Nova Gorica. The scope of the exercise will be testing a thorough cross-border approach and the preparation of competent authorities and rescuers with the emphasis on the simulation of joint management in case of emergencies using WEBGIS data, testing efficiency and effectiveness of the newly setup emergency plans, the evaluation and improvement of communication systems between adequate authorities and rescuers at the cross-border level and the promotion of reciprocal knowledge of adequate beneficiaries as well as the definition of joint operating methods.
The scope of the final exercise lies also in promoting the culture of resiliency and awareness raising on the common risks as well as in improving the two-way communication between authorities and the community in view of the common experience of the European City of Culture 2025. In 2025, the European Capital of Culture (ECC) will be hosted by Slovenia and Germany, while the Slovenian cultural capital is being jointly represented by the two Goricas, Nova Gorica in Slovenia and Gorizia in Italy.
The preparation activities are in full swing. The project group is going to sign a memorandum on the cooperation with Zavod GO! 2025, it is also worth mentioning that also the proposals for the exercise locations have been made. One of these will definitely be the Europe Square that units the two Goricas.
