After the first cycle of intersectoral workshops, all partners of the KARST-SAFE project, Preventive Action for a Safe Karst, met again in Sežana on 16 July 2024. The meeting resulted in significant harmonisation of approaches to the elaboration of the Action Plan of both countries, Italy and Slovenia. The Action Plan is expected to be ready by the end of October 2024.
In the initial part of the meeting, each project partner presented the project activities carried out so far. On the part of the Fire and Rescue Service Sežana and the Public Institute for Fire and Rescue Activity - Fire unit Nova Gorica, the purchase of additional equipment was highlighted, as well as the active role in the intersectoral workshops and the expert role in the drafting of the proposal for a Regulation on the protection against fires in the natural environment, which is currently under public discussion. All three participating municipalities (Sežana, Komen, Devin-Nabrežina) and Local Karst Action Group have designed and implemented a first cycle of intersectoral workshops and workshops with local people, which have resulted in the elaboration of the conceptual basis for the drafting of the Action Plan.
The Action Plan consists of 3 main parts:
- an analysis of the state of implementation of preventive measures and an overview of the latest Karst risk assessments;
- a set of possible preventive measures, developed together with local and professional publics and in cross-sectoral workshops;
- an action plan with a final selection of areas and measures for fire safety, which forms the basis for determining eligibility for project funding.
The Action Plan will be presented in several cross-sectoral and local events in October and November in the territory of all three municipalities, project partners of the KARST-SAFE project. The KARST-SAFE project is co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme.
