On Thursday, February 1st, 2024, the conference "Sharing Knowledge and Cultivating Sustainability: Aquaponics between Italy and Slovenia" took place, marking the launch event of the BeBlue project, funded by the cross-border cooperation program Interreg VI-A Italy Slovenia.
University, who emphasized the importance of sustainability and the crucial role of the Interreg VI-A Italy Slovenia program in this context.
Among other significant contributions, Claudia Ferluga from the Joint Secretariat of the Interreg VI-A Italy Slovenia program, Luca Tenderini from the Veneto Region, and Renato Palazzi from Veneto Agriculture shared valuable insights into the opportunities offered by aquaponics and innovation in the agricultural sector.
Daniele Brigolin from IUAV University presented the results of the BLUEGRASS project, while Roberto Pastres from UNIVE outlined the future objectives of the BeBlue project and the planning for the development of aquaponics.
A meaningful moment was the visit to the aquaponics facility at Ca' Foscari University, which allowed us to explore the facility and its organization.
A noteworthy intervention was made by Enric Gisbert from IRTA, who introduced participants to marine aquaponics and the combined production of halophytic plants and fish, opening up new perspectives in the sector.
Experiences in the sustainable production of food for the breeding of sea bass and sea bream, as experimented in the SIMTAP project, were presented by representatives from the University of Pisa, Baldassare Fronte and Lorenzo Rossi. Alberto Pardossi and Carlo Bibbiani from the University of Pisa then discussed the advantages and disadvantages of multitrophic aquaponics, sharing insights derived from the SIMTAP project.
The afternoon session, led by Marco Francese from Shoreline, was dedicated to stakeholders in the agri-food sector. Through plenary sessions and group work, participants engaged in discussions and proposed innovative ideas to improve practices in monitoring techniques, building common perspectives for the sustainable future of aquaponics between Italy and Slovenia.
