From 7 to 9 November 2024, the study visit of the Julian Prealps Natural Park took place at the Ledro Alps and Judicaria in Trentino-Alto Adige. During this valuable experience, there were several encounters with realities of the host territory, which allowed for the learning of good practices and exchange opportunities.
There was a presentation of the E-NAT2CARE project by Alberto Madrassi, who is carrying out his Interreg Volunteer Youth (IVY) experience at the Julian Prealps Natural Park. The project was presented as an activity carried out by the Park, which is the coordinating entity of the Biosphere Reserve, and as an example of cooperation with cross-border partners.
The presentation was held on the morning of 8 November in Ledro at the pile dwelling museum, during a meeting with representatives of tourism promotion associations, the Muse - Trento Science Museum, and the local administration.
Following a brief introduction of the project area and partners, Alberto continued his presentation with a necessary summary of the previous Interreg project NAT2CARE. Knowledge of the latter's objectives and results was considered necessary to fully understand the purpose of the current project.
The largest part of the talk was devoted to target species and ecosystem services. Thanks in part to the knowledge and updates learnt during the recent training workshop on the Alpine longhorn beetle (Rosalia alpina), Ural owl (Strix uralensis) and hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita), it was possible to bring those present up to date on the state of art. Naturally, an introduction to the characteristics and peculiarities of these three animals was not missing. On ecosystem services, there was no opportunity to say much, mainly due to time constraints. However, it was enough to talk about what has been identified and what the next steps of the project will be.
Finally, the events organised by the Park as part of the project were presented, which will take place in Venzone in November.
