Tables, deckchairs, cabin structures, a life raft, plastic boards and steel pipes are the ‘pieces from 90’ recovered on Tuesday 29 October in the afternoon from the stretch of water in front of the ‘Bagno militare’, just beyond the Miramare crossroads, during a seabed cleaning operation that the WWF AMP MIRAMARE and SHORELINE team carried out in cooperation with LifeGate, the Altritalia Ambiente Trieste association, the Trieste Harbour Office and the Guardia di Finanza nautical team.
The demanding operation, which required about 3 hours of work and the support of 4 boats (2 from the Miramare MPA and 2 rubber dinghies from the police), involved about 20 operators, including 10 divers engaged in removing bulky materials from the seabed, in some cases of truly considerable weight. The waste - estimated to weigh around 500-600 kg - was then taken to Grignano and disposed of thanks to the support of AcegasApsAmga.
The concretions on the tables and other structures recovered from the bottom seem to indicate that the origin of this umpteenth ‘dump in the sea’ is not only last autumn's sea storms but also previous events. The work that has just been completed is part of the awareness-raising and clean-up activities of the sea, coastline, rivers and natural areas envisaged by the Interreg VI-A ITA-SLO POSEIDONE Project.
