The GRENNAT project partners: the Municipality of Ajdovščina, the Municipality of Miren-Kostanjevica, the Venezia Giulia Land Reclamation Board, the Veneto Orientale Land Reclamation Board and the Municipality of Monfalcone, under the leadership of the Municipality of Nova Gorica, held a Natura 2000 Conference to review the state of the art of the management of the Natura 2000 network and to capitalise on the results of the GREVISLIN project. The Conference highlighted the strategic importance of the European NATURE 2000 network in the cross-border project area. It provided an overview of the state of governance of Natura 2000 sites, an overview of the legislative frameworks and practices from the point of view of the managers, management practices and concrete examples from the Slovenian and Italian sides.
Dr. Ida Jelenko Turinek from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia presented the management of Natura 2000 sites in Slovenia, and Ms Laura Pettiti from the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, Directorate for Biodiversity and Marine Protection, presented the management of the Natura 2000 network in Italy.
Dr. Jana Laganis from the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Nature Conservation presented examples of measures to improve the status of protected species and habitat types in the Vipava Valley. Ms Giovanna Colautti from the Italian Municipality of Monfalcone analysed the challenges and opportunities of the Cavana di Monfalcone area. Mr. Luca Saccone, representative of the Veneto Orientale Land Reclamation Board, presented good management practices at the Laguna Caorle in the Veneto Region, Italy, and Mr Borut Mozetič, expert manager of the nature reserve, gave an example of good practice in the management of Škocjanski zatok Nature Reserve. A discussion followed. The Conference was concluded with a guided tour of the Rihemberk Castle - a Natura 2000 info point, which was one of the results of the GREVISLIN project.
