The first day took place at the Advanced Microscopy Interdepartmental Center at the University of Trieste, where participants were introduced to cutting-edge microscopy tools. Dr. Agnes Thalhammer led a session on the structured illumination microscopy (Zeiss Elyra7), followed by a demonstration by Dr. Davide Porrelli on sample preparation techniques for SEM.
The day ended with a presentation by Drs. Roberta Bortul and Susanna Bosi on sample preparation and analysis for TEM.
The second day was held at the IOM - Institute for Materials Processing. Participants were divided into two groups for detailed laboratory sessions on Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Focused Ion Beam (FIB) technology, and confocal microscopy. Experts Dr. Simone Dal Zilio, Dr. Laura Andolfi, and Dr. Martina Conti guided participants through high-resolution imaging techniques, microanalysis, and sample preparation.
Participants expressed great enthusiasm for the hands-on experience and for strengthening collaboration between Italian microscopy centers and the ALL-MICRO project. Plans for future cross-training events with Slovenian partners will be discussed at the upcoming Interreg meeting in October.
Stay tuned for further updates on our ongoing efforts to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of microscopy!
