Trieste, Italy — July 30, 2024
Today, the final meeting of the ALL-MICRO project took place at the University of Trieste (UniTs), focusing on critical updates and strategic planning for the project. The participants met in person for the first time, including representatives from various partner institutions:
- CNR-IOM: Behnaz Abbasgholi, Simone Dal Zilio
- UniTs: Gabriele Baj, Roberta Bortul, Susanna Bosi, Rita de Zorzi, Davide Porelli, Agnes Thalhammer
- TEC4I FVG: Fabio Nocent, Achille Sartor
- UNG: Blaž Belec, Mattia Fanetti, Sandra Gardonio, Vadym Tkatchuk
- Nanocenter: Martina Knavs, Gregor Kapun
The meeting was opened by Gabriele Baj, who introduced the future Director of the Department of Life Sciences (DSV) at UniTs, Professor Donati. In his opening speech, Professor Donati emphasized the importance of microscopy and regional collaboration to maximize the use of imaging centers. The first key development discussed was the new logo, created by CNR-IOM, which was presented and confirmed for use in official documents at a size comparable to the European flag.
A comprehensive list of tasks to be completed by October was outlined, with each partner institution assigned specific responsibilities. In particular, Davide Porrelli from UniTs was appointed coordinator of the Board of Experts (BoE) to manage documentation and communication with the BoE representatives from each partner. The management of the Interreg project website will be overseen by Tec4I-FVG, while the PTP group will handle the creation and distribution of posters and brochures to be displayed at all partner locations. A unified version of the tool form will be developed by the University of Trieste (UniTs) for use on the website.
The meeting also addressed the delicate issue of data ownership and publication stemming from the pilot studies. It was agreed that, although there would be no common rule at the network level, each institution would manage these matters independently, ensuring that some data would be made publicly available for official reporting while maintaining confidentiality where necessary.
The meeting also laid the groundwork for the creation of a network portal, with CNR-IOM leading this effort. The portal, modeled on the Nanoregion portal, is expected to be completed by April 2025, though it may be delivered sooner. Furthermore, UniTs will host the project’s network server, providing a secure archive with VPN access for partners, with plans to eventually extend access to clients in the future.
The meeting concluded with an opportunity for socializing over refreshments and a guided tour of the Advanced Microscopy Interdepartmental Center (CIMA) at UniTs, offering participants a firsthand view of the advanced microscopy facilities that will play a crucial role in the ALL-MICRO project.
