Once again this year the municipalities of San Dorligo della Valle-Dolina and Hrpelje-Kozina organised the event "OPEN BORDERS- ODPRTA MEJA", which this year was included in the promotional events of the European project ENGREEN2 - Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia. Within the scope of this project in the Municipality of San Dorligo della Valle-Dolina, the renewal of signposting in the Val Rosandra-Dolina Glinščice Nature Reserve and the publication of a study of mills and milling crafts is planned.
The municipality of Hrpelje Kozina will restore two ponds and clean the glacier at Nasirec; it will purchase the land on which it stands and prepare project documentation for its restoration. Inventory activities for biodiversity conservation will take place in the Beka Landscape Park.
The promotional events of the Engreen2 project include the traditional educational workshops for pupils in the fifth grade of primary schools in the two participating municipalities, with Slovenian and Italian as the language of instruction. This year, the focus was on cross-border cooperation, knowledge of nature and the beauty of the Rosandra Valley-Dolina Glinščice Nature Reserve.
The children took a walk with guides, created bats, the reserve's symbol, in the art workshop, and discovered details of nature under a microscope.
The sunny Sunday morning of 24 March 2024 attracted a large number of participants to the much-anticipated cross-border walk linking the two neighbouring municipalities along the Friendship Trail. From Beka, the hikers set off under the leadership of Branko Bratuž Ježek, of the PD Slavnik Alpine Association, on the Italian side they started from Bagnoli della Rosandra-Boljunec.
The first stop for the hikers was in the village of Botač-Bottazzo, where the border used to be. The handshake between mayor Sandy Klun and mayoress Saša Likavec Svetelšek symbolically represents good relations, which can be an example for improving and strengthening dialogue in border areas and in the light of cross-border cooperation on a European level. Then followed the return to Beka, in the company of musicians from Duo Limit and the hospitality of the municipality and local people.
The march ended in Beka, where the organisers presented the Engreen2 project, which started last September and will end in August 2025.
