The KARST-SAFE partners met at the 4th All Partners Meeting at the end of January 2025. They took stock of the activities carried out and agreed on the implementation of the activities for the next reporting period.
The public awareness workshops on the importance of prevention activities carried out by the Fire Brigades went as planned, as well as the workshops for the population and the professional public for the preparation of the Situation Analysis and the Action Plan for the implementation of prevention measures in the future.
The draft Situation Analysis and Action Plan for Preventive Measures for a Safe Karst for the Slovenian side was reviewed and approved. For the Italian side, the same plan is in the final stages of preparation.
The lead partner, the Municipality of Sežana, together with the LAS Karst/GAL Carso, have been working on the plans for the last six months, together with experts and stakeholders. The joint document, which will bring together the two plans, will be presented at a cross-border event on 21.02.2025 in Sesljano.
The two documents constitute the technical basis for the implementation of the preventive actions to be carried out by the partners by the end of the project in September this year. The partners from the Nova Gorica Fire Brigade, the Sežana Fire Rescue Service and the Municipality of Devin-Nabrežina have purchased most of the planned equipment.Let's list:
- a small four-wheeled vehicle for firefighting, rescue and observation, adapted to the karst terrain,
- thermal imaging cameras for fire detection,
- a mobile tank with fire-fighting equipment for preventive fires, and
- some equipment or accessories for preventive measures.
There are still a few tasks to be completed. The most important of these is the cross-border meeting in February to present the preventive measures in the cross-border area of the Karst region of origin, which will be implemented in the coming months on the basis of the "Call for funding for preventive measures for a safe Karst" launched in December and the proposals received in January and February 2025.
