128 years have passed since the monument to the great violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini was solemnly inaugurated on 2 August in the main square of Piran. In memory of that festive day, in which a crowd of several thousand people paid homage to Piran's most illustrious son, the Municipality of Piran promoted a musical evening entitled The Violin of the Serenissima Lagoon. The concert was organized as part of the TARTINI BIS project within the Interreg Italy-Slovenia Programme.
Deputy Mayor Christian Poletti addressed a greeting to the many present, underlining in his speech the importance of Tartini's cultural heritage, which constitutes an important bridge between Slovenia and Italy.
The event took place in the cloister of the monastery of the Friars Minor of St. Francis, a setting that stands out for its acoustics and which is historically linked to the Master of the Nations, as the place where Giuseppe Tartini received his first education in the musical field . The audience assisted to the performarce of the Italian ensemble La Venexiana, one of the absolute references for vocal and instrumental music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. For the occasion, the soprano Emanuela Galli, the violinist Efix Puleo, the harpsichordist Dario Carpanese, the theorbist Gabriele Palomba and the baroque cellist Nicola Brovelli offered a panorama of the baroque repertoire, performing compositions by Giuseppe Tartini, Antonio Vivaldi and Barbara Strozzi .
