We are pleased to announce the launch of the project Beroots - Between rivers and lagoons: artistic routes, co-financed by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme. The project began on April 15, 2024, and will run until October 14, 2026.
The BEroots project addresses several challenges faced by the cross-border partnership area. Some of the key challenges are: overcoming the tourism crisis that occurred because of COVID-19 pandemic, developing neglected hinterland areas with tourism potential, balancing tourist flows, promoting sustainable tourism, increasing intergenerational cooperation in tourism, and improving the visibility of lesser-known artists.
The overall goal of the BEroots project is to contribute to sustainable tourism in the cross-border area, enrich the tourism offer, and promote the inclusion of various target groups. The project innovatively combines multiple activities, including the establishment of sustainable tourism infrastructure, restoration of cultural heritage, involvement of school youth and the elderly in tourism activities, training of tourist workers, development of a joint strategy, and the promotion of less-visited hinterland areas.
The direct effects and results of the project include a jointly developed strategy, pilot measures to improve tourism infrastructure, education and the organization of joint events, including a round table and cultural events. Through cross-border cooperation, the BEroots project effectively addresses challenges and enables a comprehensive approach to cultural heritage and sustainable tourism. Its activities will contribute improving the tourism offer, promoting lesser-known artists, and strengthening the sustainable development of tourism in the cross-border area. Target groups include local authorities, organisations, the general public, schools and tourist workers.
We believe that the BEroots project is an excellent example of an innovative approach addressing tourism and cultural heritage challenges, ensuring a sustainable future for the cross-border partnership area. All activities will contribute to lasting cultural wealth and the promotion of tourism and cultural exchange between Italy and Slovenia.
