“Music and cooperation”: this was the slogan of the concert series organized by the TARTINI BIS project in collaboration with the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Program, within the celebrations of the Interreg Cooperation Day 2024. This year, this cross-border initiative took place in several locations within the program area, namely Piran - Pirano, Moggio Udinese, Venice, and Trieste, where the Tartini Cross Border Youth Orchestra performed from 14 to 17 September 2024. Founded as part of the TARTINI BIS project, the orchestra brings together over 20 talented musicians under the age of 30 from Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Montenegro. The ensemble is directed by the renowned violinist and conductor Federico Guglielmo, an extraordinary expert on the artistic and cultural legacy of Giuseppe Tartini. United by the European spirit that Tartini himself embodied through his pioneering “School of Nations,” this initiative aspires to be a model of dialogue, inclusion, and openness at the cross-border level, celebrating the values of cooperation and integration through music.
In conceiving the musical program for these cross-border concerts, titled “The Paths of Nations”, Maestro Federico Guglielmo drew inspiration from the figure of Giuseppe Tartini, a true icon of his time. Tartini, with his extraordinary style, profoundly influenced his contemporaries and composers of future generations across Europe. The program offered a musical journey through the works of Johann Gottlieb Naumann, Domenico Dall’Oglio, Maddalena Lombardini Sirmen, Franz Benda, Johann Gottlieb Graun, and, of course, Giuseppe Tartini himself, celebrating his innovative spirit and cultural legacy.
The opening concert took place in the picturesque St. George's church in Piran - Pirano, the town where the Mastro of Nations was born. Hosted by the project partner Municipality of Piran, the orchestra delivered a passionate performance. The tour continued in Moggio Udinese, where, as part of the Carniarmonie festival, organized by the project partner Fondazione Luigi Bon, the orchestra captivated the audience in the stunning setting of the St. Gall's church. The third was held in Venice, in the prestigious concert hall of the Conservatory of Music Benedetto Marcello. The celebrations for the Interreg Cooperation Day 2024 concluded in Trieste, at the Conservatory of Music Giuseppe Tartini, the lead partner of the project, with an amazing final concert that saw the participation of numerous authorities and sealed the success of the initiative.
