As part of the European Week for Waste Reduction, the Municipality of Postojna officially handed over a new waste collection site with underground waste bins to the residents of the village of Landol. This is the fifth such site in the municipality and is located next to the Landol Cultural Centre. It was built as part of the Waste Design 2.0 project, under which another waste collection site was also set up this year on Pretnerjeva Street in Postojna.
The new waste collection site enables easier and more efficient waste separation. The bins are designed for collecting paper, cardboard, plastic, metal packaging and glass. During the official handover ceremony, Vojko Zalar, President of the Landol Local Community, pointed out that the benefits of the new site are already visible. In addition to more efficient use, the site contributes to a tidier and cleaner appearance of the place. The underground containers have a larger capacity, so they do not overflow as quickly as the previous ones. They also allow for the disposal of larger bags, which reduces the problem of waste being left in bags beside the bins.
The larger capacities not only benefit usability for local residents but also improve the efficiency of waste collection. The containers are equipped with monitoring and reporting technology to ensure that the collectors are full. This makes waste collection more efficient, as it requires less frequent emptying and fewer trips by refuse collection vehicles.
Together for a cleaner and sustainable future
At the opening of the new waste collection site, company Publikus was also present. The company held a practical workshop on how to separate waste properly. Residents gained tips and new insights into the importance of proper separation for recycling.
At the same time, the company presented the changes that will bring the municipality of Postojna one step closer to a more sustainable future. In 2025, households in the municipality of Postojna will receive additional bins with a blue lid for the separate collection of paper. The new bins will allow better separation of paper, which is currently often disposed of in black bins, meant for mixed waste. The aim of introducing blue-lid bins is to reduce the frequency of emptying black bins from 14 days to once a month. This change will help manage waste more efficiently, increase the proportion of recycled paper and bring us one step closer to compliance with EU directives.
"Proper waste separation is a simple but important habit that impacts our community and the environment," said Maja Piškur, project manager. "With Waste Design 2.0, we at the Municipality of Postojna are working to establish more efficient waste management systems that promote sustainable practices and a tidy environment. Caring for the environment reflects our respect for the space we live in and represents an important step towards a sustainable future. By managing waste responsibly and disposing of it properly, we can all work together to build a cleaner, more sustainable and tidier Postojna.
