The public campaign for the collection of urban materials in the Municipality of Spinea (VE) has achieved concrete and innovative results, highlighting the importance of a collaborative and sustainable approach. In addition to the collection, meetings held in schools played a crucial role in educating children and adolescents about proper recycling and reuse practices, as well as raising awareness about the importance of correctly sorting various materials, with a particular focus on fiber-reinforced materials (CFR).
During the collection days, a significant amount of waste, 669 kg, was gathered. Among this, 26,91% of the collected material was identified as CFR, 180 kg of fiber-reinforced materials—which will be transformed into prototypes for new sustainable design products.
The treatment and sorting of materials were managed by the utilities VERITAS S.p.A. and ECO+ECO, with technical support from GEES. Through a targeted separation process, it was possible to identify and prepare the recycled CFR material by eliminating unsuitable components such as ski bindings, padding, wheels, plastic, and metal parts, ensuring compliance with European waste codes.
The selected material was sent to the GEES recycling plant, where it will be transformed into full-scale 1:1 functional prototypes. These prototypes, made from the collected CFR, will include recycled panels processed with advanced technologies such as CNC cutting, protective finishing, and assembly. The products will undergo functional testing in accredited laboratories to ensure quality and compliance with regulations.
GEES has developed and proposed a catalog of products made from recycled CFR for the following recipients:
- Municipality of Spinea: Products for urban furniture and public spaces, with playful and recreational solutions for schools.
- Slovenian company Technol: Thermosetting sheets and other types of recycled CFR, to be reintroduced into the company's production cycles.
These products, designed with virtual representations and descriptive datasheets, will be selected based on the specific needs of the recipients and the best applications for the recycled material.
