From October 4th to 6th, the first Autumn Wine School on the autochthonous wines of the Italian and Slovenian Karst was held at the Wine Shop in Sgonico, organized by GAL Carso-LAS Kras.
The school was attended by 10 selected experts from Central and Northern Italy, all eager to explore the Karst territory and its native wines. It was a unique opportunity to showcase the rich viticultural heritage of the cross-border Karst outside our region.
On the first day, participants focused on the history of viticulture in the Karst with wine historian Stefano Cosma, delved into the production and peculiarities of the Karst with expert Robi Jakomin, and tasted two symbolic wines of the area, Malvasia and Vitovska, in a guided tasting.
On the second day, participants explored the secrets of the Karst's native red wines. Teran was studied under the guidance of Roberto Filipaz (AISFVG), they visited the Bajta Salež farm restaurant, tasted various types of Refosco with Bruno Cataletto (AIS Trieste), and discovered local olive growing with a tasting of local olive oils with Giacomo Cecotti. The day ended with traditional Karst dishes at Gostilna Brin.
On the last day, we visited two wineries. The first stop was at Zidarich in Prepotto, where he spoke about his philosophy and professional path in the beautiful setting of his farm. We then visited the Budin winery, where GAL Carso-LAS Kras president David Pizziga awarded diplomas for participation, and the new Karst ambassadors had the opportunity to taste typical osmizza delicacies in addition to the wines.
Truly a unique experience! We eagerly await the second part of the school, dedicated to wine communication experts, which will take place in March.
