The activities of the cross-border technical working groups for the transfer of terminological standardisation methodologies and legal-administrative terms have started.
As part of the CrossTerm project, the first joint meeting of two cross-border technical working groups, coordinated respectively by CAN Costiera and ARLeF, was held online on Thursday, 21 November 2024. The aim of the meeting was to promote the transfer of best practices in terminological standardisation, developed by the Central Office for the Slovene Language of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia (hereinafter CO), and to establish a shared approach to terminological standardisation.
First, Tanja Sternad presented the terminological validation model adopted by the CO, from the collection of terms to their validation. Following this, Laura Sgubin highlighted the importance of technology in terminology management, describing the progress made by the CO in making terminological resources accessible to all. According to the CO's experience, sharing terminological resources online is crucial to ensuring consistency, accessibility, and collaboration in the processes of term validation. This also contributes to a more efficient and coherent use of terminology within language communities.
ARLeF and CAN Costiera also outlined their achievements in terminological standardisation and the development of linguistic tools. Both expressed interest in Laura Sgubin's proposal to share, based on the model developed by the CO, the structure of a database that would allow for effective cataloguing of terms and their easy export for online publication.
In the next three meetings, planned for each group, the transfer of best practices will also include the adaptation of 80 legal-administrative terms, standardised by the CO for Slovene in Italy, into Italian in Slovenia and Friulian.
