During the project meeting held on 24 June 2025, the partners of the CrossTerm project reviewed the challenging work completed within the second work package between November 2024 and June 2025. Over this period, six cross-border expert working groups developed and tested approaches to terminology standardization in three languages – Slovenian, Italian, and Friulian – across five specialist fields: administrative and labour law, urban planning, toponymy, titles, and professional qualifications.
The first major outcome of this intensive collaboration is a collection of over 300 standardized specialist terms. These will be integrated into a new language tool currently being developed by the Centre for Language Resources and Technologies (CJVT) in Ljubljana, in collaboration with other project partners.
Throughout the process, valuable insights emerged regarding the selection of standardization methodologies, the organization of multilingual collaboration, and the integration of specialized terminological and linguistic expertise. These findings will serve as foundation for the development of a Cross-Border Terminology Standardization Model for Multilingual Operability in Public Administration. This model, based on the analysis of the work completed, will provide guidelines to consolidate and further advance multilingual terminology standardization, ensuring its consistent and effective application in cross-border communication.
The meeting thus marked a significant transition from the testing phase to the modelling phase, which will guide the next steps in the implementation of the project's second work package.
