In November 2024, the DAIRY+ project was presented at the 11th Scientific Meeting "Challenges of Research in Animal Husbandry - Archer Days," organized by the Department of Animal Science at the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana. The event brought together international experts focused on finding sustainable solutions for the agri-food and livestock sectors and the circular bioeconomy.
Dr. Bojana Bogovič Matijašič, representing the IML-PRO project partner, presented DAIRY+, a project funded under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme. The project aims to valorize whey, a strategic by-product often considered waste, by transforming it into high-value resources.
Using technologies such as ultrafiltration, whey can be concentrated to develop innovative dairy products, including beverages, spreads, ricotta, and ice cream, enriched with proteins, probiotics, and postbiotics.
Another key objective of the project is to assess the life cycle of these products to identify cost-effective and sustainable processing solutions, particularly suited for small dairies and farms.
The DAIRY+ project's contribution to the meeting highlighted the importance of combining innovation and sustainability for the future of the dairy industry.
