TRECap
Specific objective: SO 4 - Promoting climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account eco-system based approaches
Typology: Capitalization project
The National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics - OGS coordinated and managed the TRETAMARA project within the Interreg V-A Italy-Slovenia 2014-2020 cooperation programme, involving NIB (the Marine Biology Station Piran), CNR (ISMAR of Venice and IGG of Padua) and Shoreline, aimed at enhancing the biogenic and geogenic heritage of the northern Adriatic. The analysis of the current management of protected areas carried out in the framework of TRETAMARA has revealed a number of shortcomings, which can be summarised mainly in a lack of coordination and strategies. This results in low of management efficiency, which can be improved by adopting common objectives, strategies and management tools at the Upper Adriatic level. The challenge of TRECap is to initiate this process through the joint implementation of some actions that will serve as examples. Attention has been drawn to a threat, climate change, which is severely affecting our marine environment, and to a species, Pinna nobilis, which is threatened with extinction but still present in the upper Adriatic, in order to start developing common management strategies. All actions will be accompanied by further communication and training activities to promote this transboundary vision and enable its transferability and permanence.
- The aim is to improve the management of all protected areas in the Northern Adriatic by providing best practise examples such as the Climate Change Monitoring Network and a transboundary strategy for the management of P. nobilis in the Northern Adriatic.
- The main innovative aspect will be determined by the common approach, that will be able to deliver results at the level of the Northern Adriatic
The project outpits will be good practises to mitigate climate change and preserve Pinna nobilis to be replicated in the protected areas, as well as information and training modules for general objectives, but also for building the blue economic chain (slow and blue tourism).
