In Monfalcone, on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, the final event of the GRENNAT project took place, where partners presented the results of two years of cross-border cooperation in the field of nature conservation and the development of green infrastructure. The event was well attended, and high-level political representatives were also present among the participants, confirming the importance of the project and its results for the wider cross-border community.
The central event was the opening of the new Natura 2000 digital information point in Marina Julia. The information point consists of an interactive touchscreen information totem and a large LED display, which present the project activities, the natural characteristics of the Cavana di Monfalcone area, and the importance of protecting Natura 2000 sites. Maps of the educational trail, information brochures, and other visitor materials are also available.
Within the project, the Municipality of Monfalcone implemented several pilot activities, including the development of an educational trail in the Cavana area, the preparation of a map of hiking and cycling routes, and the installation of information panels on the rich bird fauna of the area. The new digital information point complements these contents and offers visitors a modern and interactive way to experience the natural heritage.
At the closing event, partners presented the achievements of individual institutions and highlighted the importance of successful cooperation between Slovenian and Italian organisations. Joint activities have contributed to more effective management of protected areas, the exchange of good practices, and greater awareness among local communities about the importance of nature conservation, and represent a solid foundation for further cross-border cooperation.
