PODIPO
The PODIPO project aimed at enhancing and strengthening the culture of multilingualism with the active participation of children, youth and the elderly. The aim was to raise awareness and promote the cultural heritage of dialects and local languages that are interwoven in the border area by preserving dialect expressions, bringing them closer to the younger generation and the general public. The first phase of the project consisted of 8 workshops involving children, young people as well as elderly people in nursing homes. The workshops addressed the issues of multilingualism, preservation and transmission of cultural heritage to new generations, poetry, its authors and geographical diversity of the program area, through an artistic-cultural approach. In the second phase of the project, the results of the workshops were presented within an interactive book during two major public cultural events.
The main objectives of the project were:
- To explore and preserve the dialects of the cross-border area;
- To research and collect poetry from the cross-border area;
- To actively involve marginalized groups: elderly people in retirement homes and young people from areas with fewer opportunities;
- To publish a collection containing the results of workshops held in retirement homes (translations of poetry into various dialects) and in schools (creation of short films based on poetry);
- To raise awareness of the diversity and beauty of the cross border area through culture and cultural heritage, and to increase the visibility of the area;
- To support the promotion of the area within the framework of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025.
There have been several workshops both in retirement homes and in schools in the local area.
In retirement homes in Tolmin, Koper, Gradišče nad Prvačino, Mortegliano and San Pietro al Natisone, translation workshops were carried out, where participants translated the works of 30 poets from the cross-border area into their local dialects.
In three secondary schools and one primary school, film workshops were conducted in collaboration with established directors. The poems translated into dialects by the elderly were then reinterpreted by young people and children into short films or video pieces.
The results of the workshops are compiled in an extensive 180-page publication, which includes poetry translations, photographs, and links to short films and audio recordings of poetry readings in dialects.
