In view of the European programming period 2028–2034, the process of shaping the future of cross-border cooperation has developed through two consultation phases. The first consultation, carried out in 2024 at European level, gathered contributions on the future of Interreg Programmes. In 2026, the Interreg Italy–Slovenia Programme launched a second consultation, focusing on the expectations of the cooperation area and its beneficiaries.
The results of both consultations contribute to shaping the future priorities of Italy–Slovenia cooperation for the 2028–2034 period.
2024 Consultation
A first consultation on the future of Interreg Programmes — carried out prior to the publication of the European Commission’s regulatory proposals in July 2025 — was promoted at European level by the European Commission, with the support of Interact. The results of the consultation were presented during the annual Interreg GO!2025 event, held in Gorizia/Nova Gorica. The overall results are published on the Interact website: Interact | Outcomes of the Post-2027 Interreg consultations.
With regard to the Interreg Italy–Slovenia Programme, the consultation involved stakeholders, citizens and schools in the cooperation area, with the aim of identifying the main territorial needs and priorities for the 2028–2034 period.
Conclusions of the 2024 Consultation
2026 Consultation
Following the first consultation in 2024, the Interreg Italy–Slovenia Programme launched a new consultation in 2026, with the aim of gathering the experiences, expectations and proposals of those involved in and contributing to Italy–Slovenia cross-border cooperation, and of understanding the main challenges and priorities to be considered in the next programming period.
Through an online questionnaire addressed to beneficiaries of previous and the current Interreg Italy–Slovenia programming periods (2007–2013, 2014–2020 and 2021–2027), the Programme gathered contributions on their experience of cross-border cooperation and their expectations for the future.
The Consultation Report presents the results and provides an overview of the main findings gathered, which represent an important contribution to the process of defining the priorities of the Interreg Italy–Slovenia Programme for 2028–2034.
