On Friday, October 24, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Monte Ermada/Grmada Open-Air Museum, PromoTurismoFVG, together with the project partners, organized an educational event near Monte Ermada/Grmada for third-year students from the lower secondary schools of Duino-Aurisina and Komen. The goal was to offer students an educational and hands-on experience at the sites of the First World War.
More than 90 students took part in the initiative, accompanied by historical experts, as well as nature and tourist guides. The group followed a route of about five kilometers, from Medeazza to the summit of Monte Cocco.
The day began with a welcome for the schools and the distribution of snacks. Afterwards, the classes, divided into groups, set off on a guided walk during which the experts described historical events and aspects of the conflict, showing remains of trenches, machine gun posts, and military shelters still present along the route.
The students then had a snack break at Case Kohišče before continuing to the top of Monte Cocco and later beginning the descent.
To further explore and consolidate the knowledge acquired, a preparatory training day had been organized in the respective schools in the weeks prior to the excursion. The session included an interactive lecture conducted by historian Roberto Todero for the Italian schools and by Jože Terčon for the Slovenian schools. The meeting focused particularly on the strategic role of Monte Ermada/Grmada during the First World War, helping students understand the historical and symbolic importance of this territory.
