On Friday, March 7, we went to the Elementary School in Hrpelje, where we were welcomed by aspiring first-graders.
The science day was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of green infrastructure. We talked about animals found in our environment, with special emphasis on karst ponds and amphibians. We learned what ponds were used for in the past, what ice houses are, the differences between frogs and newts, and why goldfish do not belong in a karst pond. We also looked at models of amphibians and found out that these animals can be very colorful. In the end, we made ponds, frogs, and newts out of modeling clay.
