Engaging young people is one of the priorities of the TARTINI BIS project, which, through one of its initiatives, encouraged young musicians to explore the many facets of Giuseppe Tartini’s life and work. The workshop, titled Exploring Tartini, which celebrated the musical and cultural legacy of the Maestro of Nations, took place on 12 and 13 October 2024, involving students from the Music School and the Artistic Gymnasium of Koper-Capodistria.
The first day was dedicated to a lecture led by musicologist Nejc Sukljan, a professor at the University of Ljubljana, who introduced participants to Tartini’s figure within the historical context of his time and immersed them in the repertoire and techniques of Baroque music. As part of the initiative, a string orchestra was formed, which had the opportunity to perform some of Giuseppe Tartini’s pieces in a new arrangement. These pieces were adapted and rearranged by composition students at the Conservatory “Giuseppe Tartini” in Trieste, the project’s lead partner, with the aim of making them accessible to beginner musicians.

The young participants showcased what they had learned by performing on the second day in front of an enthusiastic audience. They were accompanied by four talented musicians from the Tartini Cross Border Youth Orchestra. The concert was held at the Regional Museum of Koper and drew a large audience. The Director of the Music School of Koper, Iztok Babnik, thanked the Italian Union for organizing the workshop and emphasized the importance of introducing Giuseppe Tartini’s invaluable legacy to young people and offering them innovative and inspiring educational opportunities.
