On 30 September 2025, Izola General Hospital organised and hosted a professional meeting within the framework of the AidMIRE project, as well as the pre-premiere of the promotional film “MASS CASUALTY Socerb 2025”. Both activities were held under the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia 2021–2027 Programme.
The AidMIRE Project Conference was intended for employees of Izola General Hospital, the Izola Health Centre, and the Sežana Health Centre, as well as representatives of the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief (Koper Branch), participants of the simulation exercise “MASS CASUALTY Socerb 2025”, and members of the media.
Following the opening address by Dr Tomaž Gantar, Medical Director of Izola General Hospital, who highlighted the importance of the project and its contribution to the cross-border region, Dr Katja Štrancar Fatur, AidMIRE Project Manager at Izola General Hospital, presented the project’s background and objectives. She outlined the process leading to its co-financing approval, described its main goals, and provided an overview of the project deliverables. Dr Štrancar Fatur also emphasised the internationally certified courses and other training activities in which staff from all partner institutions have participated. Dr Peter Golob, Professional Lead of the AidMIRE project and Head of the Emergency Centre at Izola General Hospital, spoke about the challenges of cross-border cooperation in the field of healthcare.
The central part of the event featured the pre-premiere of a ten-minute promotional film entitled “MASS CASUALTY Socerb 2025”. The film presents the course and key moments of the large-scale simulation exercise held on 17 May 2025 at Socerb Castle and its surroundings. The Koper Branch of the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief served as the main organiser of this regionally significant exercise, which involved all project partners and numerous other stakeholders. Within the scope of the simulation, the project partners pilot-tested the cross-border cooperation protocols developed under the project.
The simulation exercise, which required extensive preparation and a carefully designed scenario, was presented by:
• Igor Crnić, Head of the Medical Section of the Exercise, Izola Health Centre;
• Nina Vrabec, Izola General Hospital; and
• Andrej Gustinčič, Regional Branch of the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief.
They concluded the event with a summary of the main findings. A total of 46 employees from Izola General Hospital took part in the exercise, including 19 medical doctors, 17 nurses, and 10 members of the support staff.
At the close of the event, Katerina Rihter, Director of the Sežana Health Centre, shared her reflections on the project’s success and the excellent cooperation among partners. Dr Tomaž Gantar concluded by expressing his sincere gratitude to all participants for their commitment and valuable contribution to the project.
