ODEC
ODEC is an international project using dance and performing arts to explore the cross-border conurbation of Nova Gorica and Gorica. The project involves the organization of eleven performances in eleven historically significant sites created by some of the most significant contemporary choreographers. The performances compose a route in stages that winds between the two urban cores, constituting a dynamic and fluid experience of the city by inhabitants and visitors.The project contributes to the strategy of Nova Gorica-Gorizia European Capital of Culture 2025 by promoting a single open city without borders, involving citizenship, and promoting tourist attractiveness.
The project’s aim was to create a unique and surprising cultural experience for residents and visitors by trying to unite artistic performances and urban landscapes taking on the challenge posed by the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the cross-border region of Nova Gorica and Gorizia. This process is designed to nurture the identity of local communities and have a positive social impact, while also promoting the development of sustainable tourism in the area.
Twelve itinerant events were held, each consisting of nine stops, which took participants on a performative journey through the urban areas of Nova Gorica and Gorizia. The events took place over 6 days in October 2025. The production involved 25 choreographers and performers, 30 students from the Udine Dance High School, technicians, set designers, costume designers, musicians and numerous other crew members.
In addition, a documentary film was produced to explore the concept of a single, open city, where borders dissolve and give way to connection. Video artists Michele Pupo and Ruben Vuaran captured and conveyed this experience in the documentary film "ODEC: A Cross-Border Experience", which interweaves original footage with the voices of the participants, offering an intimate and engaging glimpse into the project.
