LIKE A BIRD
The LIKE A BIRD project aims to respond to the architectural education needs of young people, who are increasingly immersed in virtual reality and have little knowledge of urban spaces that could support their relaxation, creativity or enjoyment. The aim of the project is to involve young people more closely in the design of future architectural solutions, providing them with the necessary tools through teacher training, pilot workshops, interactive dialogues and interviews, in order to increase their awareness of space and amplify their needs. In the first phase, training courses will be organised for approximately 15 Italian and 15 Slovenian teachers. In the second phase, 4 cross-border Playful Architecture workshops will be held, during which a questionnaire will be developed to collect the desired data from the teenagers. The results of the questionnaires will give rise to guided tours and creative workshops.
The objectives of the project were:
- To foster interaction and mutual understanding among teenagers from both sides of the border, creating opportunities to exchange experiences and knowledge;
- To overcome linguistic and cultural barriers through creative activities, workshops and city walks in an informal and playful environment;
- To transfer and enhance the pedagogical experiences developed over the years in Slovenia, adapting them to the cross-border context and enriching them with new content;
- To share and make the project results sustainable through the creation of a bilingual pedagogical handbook, available free of charge to primary and secondary schools in the cross-border area.
The “Like a bird” project achieved the following results:
- 16 hours of training for educational practitioners, aimed at providing innovative tools and methodologies for working with young people on the topics of urban space, architecture and the cross-border dimension;
- Involvement of 62 young people aged between 11 and 14 from both sides of the border through creative workshops and experiential activities held in Nova Gorica and Gorizia;
- Organisation of cross-border guided tours led by the young participants, who had the opportunity to present the most significant places in their own cities to the inhabitants from the other side and to reflect together on the border and urban space;
- Overcoming linguistic and cultural barriers through simultaneous interpretation and shared activities that encouraged communication, social interaction and mutual understanding;
- Creation of the bilingual handbook “Playful Architecture Outdoors”, which brings together the project’s methodologies, activities and experiences and serves as a replicable tool for teachers, educators and families;
- Dissemination of the project results through the free distribution of the handbook to schools in the cross-border area, its publication in both print and electronic formats, and the organisation of public presentations in Gorizia and Nova Gorica.
Overall, the project created new opportunities for young people from the two territories to meet and interact, while developing tools and skills that can support educational activities and cross-border cooperation beyond the end of the project.
