First cross-border seminar to prepare the action plan for the revitalisation of the Monte Stol and Planja area

First cross-border seminar to prepare the action plan for the revitalisation of the Monte Stol and Planja area (Granmonte area)

As part of the ITINERANT project, we are delighted to invite you to the first participatory workshop aimed at local and cross-border stakeholders, with the aim of defining an action plan for the revitalisation of the Monte Stol and Planja area and for the sustainable development of the wider cross-border region.

The ITINERANT project promotes innovative models of sustainable development within the Julian Alps Cross-Border Biosphere Reserve, with a particular focus on empowering local communities, strengthening social inclusion and developing sustainable tourism services. These actions aim to improve the quality of life for local populations, whilst contributing to the protection and enhancement of the natural and cultural heritage.

The participatory workshop represents a strategic phase in the process of drawing up the action plan, based on the active involvement of local stakeholders. Through the contribution of experiences, knowledge and the specific needs of the area, it will be possible to define concrete, realistic and sustainable development guidelines.

The ITINERANT project involves the implementation of pilot actions aimed at improving the tourist experience, strengthening the protection of natural and cultural heritage, promoting the social inclusion of local communities and improving connectivity between the territories of the Julian Alps Transboundary Biosphere Reserve.

Studies on sustainable tourism highlight how stakeholder involvement is an essential prerequisite for effective and shared planning. Participatory approaches enable a better understanding of local needs, reduce conflicts between different interests, and develop strategies based on the area’s real challenges and opportunities. Furthermore, active participation improves the quality of planning and facilitates the implementation of development measures.

The first workshop will focus in particular on:

  • identifying the main development challenges in the area
  • gathering ideas for the revitalisation of the Monte Stol and Planja area
  • identifying development opportunities in the sectors of sustainable tourism, agriculture and nature conservation
  • formulating proposals for the cross-border action plan

The cross-border action plan will be drawn up on the basis of an analysis of the territorial context, a review of existing studies and the results of the participatory process. The document will provide strategic guidelines for the balanced development of the area, respecting natural resources, cultural heritage and the needs of local communities.
