The BEroots project, co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Program, invites residents and tourists to rediscover the region through the eyes of three great writers who celebrated its beauty. Under the title “Between Rivers and Lagoons: Artistic Routes”, three special events are planned that combine cycling, boating, and historical-cultural exploration.
The first event will take place on May 7, 2026, and is dedicated to Ernest Hemingway, winding its way between the mainland and the Caorle lagoon. The route explores “river cycling,” combining cycling with boat trips. Divided into two groups, participants will visit the historic center of Caorle, the Museum of the Sea, and Fishermen’s Island. A boat ride will allow participants to admire the casoni and the Franchetti family’s riverside home, a source of inspiration for the American writer.
The second route, dedicated to Ippolito Nievo, winds between the Lemene and Tagliamento rivers on Saturday, May 23, 2026. An afternoon in the footsteps of “Confessions of an Italian”, exploring the landscapes dear to Ippolito Nievo. After a historical overview in Portogruaro, participants will cycle along the GiraLemene route, passing Villa Bombarda and the Boldara Mills. The destination is the medieval village of Cordovado, concluding at the Cortino of Fratta Castle.
The final event follows in the footsteps of Pier Paolo Pasolini on Saturday, June 13, 2026, with an immersion in the rural landscapes that so greatly influenced his early work. The ride will pass by the picturesque Pacher lakes, the Venchieredo Fountain, and the Stalis Mills. The group will continue toward Sesto al Reghena to visit the medieval village and the church of San Pietro in Versiola. There will be a refreshment break at the village of Stalis before returning and concluding the route.
