This year's European Week of Regions and Cities took place in Brussels from 7 to 10 October. Once again, the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia cross-border programme took part in the event, in cooperation with the Interreg Italy-Croatia programme. The focus of the meeting of the two programmes was on finding ways to cooperate in the field of tourism, which focuses on local specificities, preserving cultural heritage and on the knowledge of nature, which involves at the same time its preservation and a monitoring of the number of visitors. In this context, the need to make tourism services more accessible to people with disabilities was highlighted in particular. The Adrioncycletour and Inter Bike III projects were also presented at the event. The two projects have many related activities: investment in cycling infrastructure, the introduction of transport services that are also designed for cyclists, training of tourism providers to offer better services to visitors and the promotion of the cross-border area as an attractive tourist destination. The projects of the two programmes, which are dealing with sustainable transport, also for tourism purposes, have found many points of common ground on which they could work together in the future. Coordination could be possible in the implementation of investments in tourism infrastructure, in the introduction of new bus and boat services, and in the organisation of joint events and training. The main guest of the event was Mr. Slawomir Tokarski from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy.
