Construction work on the Hiša Zdravljica (House Zdravljica) building in Podnanos has been successfully completed. The building will soon open as a modern interpretation centre dedicated to the life and work of composer Stanko Premrl, who wrote the melody of the Slovenian national anthem. The investment was carried out as part of the European co-funded BEroots project, aimed at reviving cultural heritage and promoting sustainable tourism in less known places.
Stanko Premrl is an important but often overlooked artist who is relatively unknown in the project area. The renovation of the Zdravljica House represents the first systematic attempt to bring his work to a wider audience. The building will showcase the composer's life, his artistic work and the broader social and cultural context of the time that influenced the creation of the melody foZdravljica, a song that later became the Slovenian national anthem.
The Zdravljica House will be intended for various target groups. Children and students will be able to learn about Premrl's life and work in an interactive way tailored to their needs. Schools will be able to include visits to the facility in their curriculum.
During the renovation of the building, great emphasis was placed on sustainability. The construction was carried out using environmentally friendly and traditional materials such as lime, wood and stone. As the building is located in the heart of the village, it will be accessible on foot from a nearby car park, which means minimal impact on the environment. The project also has cross-border significance, as it will contribute to strengthening cultural cooperation and integration between municipalities within the programme area by reviving Premrl's story.
The conclusion of the construction work is an important milestone, but not the end of the project. The next step is to prepare the content and interior design of the building. The project team is already planning the layout of educational and experiential content that will give visitors a comprehensive and in-depth insight into Premrl's life and times. With the Zdravljica House, Podnanos is gaining a new centre that will contribute to the sustainable development of tourism, the revival of local cultural life and the laying of foundations for further projects related to the preservation and interpretation of cultural heritage.
