From Sistiana to Lipica, from the lagoons of Marano to the mosaics of Aquileia: an immersive and dynamic itinerary welcomed a group of journalists specialized in bike tourism and outdoor activities, during a press trip organized as part of the Interreg ITA/SLO Kras-Carso II and ADRIONCYCLETOUR projects.
The journey began with an introduction to the natural and historical treasures of the classic Karst: a visit to the majestic Duino Castle, followed by a walk along the scenic Rilke Trail, suspended between cliffs and sea. The day concluded at the Infopoint in Sistiana with a presentation of the cross-border projects.
On the second day, the group crossed the unique landscape of the Marano Lagoon by e-bike and ferry, continuing on to Aquileia.
The third day was entirely dedicated to the exploration of the cross-border Karst. Riding e-bikes, participants cycled from Sistiana to Lipica, passing through some of the area’s most iconic places: Prosecco, the scenic Strada Napoleonica overlooking the Gulf of Trieste, skirting the edge of the Karst plateau to reach Basovizza, and finally arriving in Lipica, home of the majestic white Lipizzaner horses. The route offered a deep immersion in the landscapes, history, and culture of the Karst, ending with a guided tour of the Divača Cave.
On the final morning, after check-out, the tour concluded with a nature experience at the Isola della Cona: a peaceful canoe exploration guided through the nature reserve, among silence, calm waters, and biodiversity.
