After the 2022 wildfire, it became clear that the restoration of the Karst is not only a task for nature, but also for the community, professionals, farmers, municipalities, institutions, and individuals who live and work here.
Therefore, within the framework of the Karst Firewall 5.0 project, which focuses on developing cross-border measures to reduce fire risk in the Karst, we invite you to join us on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, at 10:00 in the conference hall of the Cerje Peace Memorial (Lokvica 35, Miren) for a consultation and participatory workshop. The event will address key questions related to the maintenance and restoration of the Karst cultural landscape as a way to increase fire resilience in the Municipality of Miren–Kostanjevica.
Over recent decades, land use in the Karst has changed significantly. The abandonment of traditional grazing, the overgrowth of grasslands, and the deterioration of dry-stone walls all contribute to increased landscape vulnerability. Together with you, we will therefore seek practical solutions that could be implemented in the local environment.
The workshop is intended for everyone whose knowledge or work shapes the Karst landscape. We especially invite farmers, agrarian communities, local and national institutions in the fields of agriculture, environment, and spatial planning, advisory services, associations and institutions working in cultural heritage, dry-stone construction, and tourism, as well as the interested general public.
