During the third reporting period, the FIRESAFENET project successfully continued the implementation of activities aimed at improving preparedness for wildfires and other vegetation fires while strengthening cross-border cooperation among project partners.
A key milestone of this reporting period was the third project partners' meeting, held on 14 May at the Municipality of Tržič and hosted by the Municipality of Tržič as a project partner. During the meeting, partners reviewed the project's progress, presented the activities implemented and the results achieved, and discussed the next steps for project implementation. Particular attention was devoted to the preparation of the Action Plan, which will contribute to more effective cross-border cooperation in wildfire prevention and management.
Project partners also discussed the preparations for the upcoming study visit to Sardinia, scheduled for autumn. The visit will provide firefighters and other experts with the opportunity to explore examples of good practice, modern firefighting approaches, and intervention management in areas exposed to high wildfire risk. In addition, the project foresees further training activities aimed at enhancing the preparedness of emergency response units and strengthening the resilience of local communities to the impacts of climate change.
Over the past months, the FIRESAFENET project was presented at several professional and public events, where partners promoted the project's objectives and activities while exchanging knowledge and experience with the international professional community. The project was showcased at the Interschutz International Trade Fair in Germany, the 25th International Firefighters' Day in Grado (Italy), the Bogataj Days of Protection and Rescue in Nova Gorica (Slovenia), and the Let's Play for Safety event in Ajdovščina (Slovenia).
In the coming months, project partners will continue implementing the planned activities, with particular focus on the study visit to Sardinia and the development of a Virtual Centre, which will support knowledge exchange, the sharing of good practices, and cooperation among organisations active in the field of civil protection and emergency management.
The FIRESAFENET project is implemented within the framework of the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia Programme 2021–2027. Through cross-border cooperation, the project contributes to the development of innovative solutions for wildfire prevention, more effective risk management, and the mitigation of climate change impacts across the Italy–Slovenia cross-border area.
