On 4 July 2026, the Municipality of Lignano Sabbiadoro officially inaugurated FRESCO, the first Climate Shelter established within the CLISHE project. Located in the coastal pine forest along the Ge.Tur. trail near Rotonda 4, FRESCO offers residents and visitors a welcoming public space where they can find shade, natural cooling and relief during hot summer days.
The opening event combined the official inauguration with a series of participatory activities, giving visitors the opportunity to experience and explore the new space. Participants joined a community imagination workshop led by OPS!LAB together with young people from L.HUB Park Lignano and ALAP, as well as a guided nature walk organised by Studio Eupolis and Associazione La Foce del Tagliamento, highlighting the ecological value of Lignano's coastal pine forest.
During the event, FRESCO's summer programme was also presented. Throughout the season, the Climate Shelter will host free workshops, guided walks and educational activities, transforming the space into a vibrant place for meeting, participation and well-being for both residents and visitors.
The speakers highlighted the importance of protecting and enhancing public green spaces, which play a key role in improving people's well-being, providing natural relief during heatwaves and strengthening community resilience to climate change. They also emphasised the crucial role of community participation in caring for and enhancing public spaces.
The inauguration of FRESCO marks another important milestone for the CLISHE project, demonstrating how nature-based solutions can support climate change adaptation while helping to create healthier, more resilient and more connected communities.
