Livek has gained a modern new facility that opens up new opportunities for sustainable mobility along the Slovenia–Italy border. The official handover of the new smart cycling station took place today.
GOLEA, the investor and a partner in the CycleProMotion project, officially took over the station today. It will be managed by the Municipality of Kobarid, a co-investor in the station and an associated project partner. The equipment and professional installation of the smart station were provided by KIG d.o.o.
The station in Livek is the first of five planned smart cycling stations to be installed within the CycleProMotion project across the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia programme area.
Cross-border cycling corridor: Connecting the region through five strategic locations
The CycleProMotion project transcends borders and promotes cross-border cooperation by establishing an integrated cycling network. The network connects five locations in both countries and makes it easier for cyclists to travel from the heart of the Julian Alps all the way to the Adriatic Sea:
- 📍 Bled (SLO)
- 📍 Livek (SLO)
- 📍 Ahten / Attimis (ITA)
- 📍 Šempeter pri Gorici (SLO)
- 📍 Štivan / San Giovanni di Duino (ITA)
Modern support for cyclists on the move
The main purpose of these advanced stations is to actively promote cross-border cycling and position the border area as a single, connected tourist destination. The smart station provides cyclists travelling along this diverse and demanding route with:
- 🔋 Electric bicycle charging: The energy-self-sufficient charging station makes it easier to tackle the elevation differences between the various locations. Electricity for charging bicycles will be generated by photovoltaic panels installed on the station’s roof.
- 🧺 A comfortable rest area: The station is equipped with benches and tables, offering cyclists a pleasant place to take a break.
In the coming months, the station will also be upgraded with interactive digital content, giving cyclists easy access to key local information they may need during their journey.
