The project partners, the Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO) and the Regional Environmental Protection Agency of Friuli Venezia Giulia (ARPA FVG), have prepared two content-aligned podcasts that present to listeners the objectives and initial activities of the project, as well as the importance of cross-border cooperation in adapting urban areas to rising heat.
The podcasts address the question of how urban areas are increasingly experiencing the effects of climate change, particularly the phenomenon of urban heat islands, where temperatures are significantly higher than in surrounding areas. The speakers from both agencies explain that effective responses to extreme heat require coordinated action among cross-border institutions, as climate conditions do not recognise national boundaries.
The Slovenian version features Katja Kozjek Mihelec and Neža Lokošek from ARSO, while the Italian version includes Stefania Catano and Valentina Gallina from ARPA FVG. In conversation with the hosts, they present the foundations of the project, the first activities carried out, and the importance of professional cooperation in developing common criteria for monitoring heat conditions.
The podcasts provide listeners with information on:
why urban heat islands and heatwaves are an increasing challenge for city residents,
how cooperation between Slovenian and Italian environmental agencies works,
how shared data and indicators will support unified heat warnings,
which initial steps the partners have taken since the beginning of the project.
The podcasts thus offer insight into the scientific background of the project, while clearly explaining why extreme heat events are becoming more frequent and why coordinated action is essential.
