On Saturday, October 10, from 10:45 AM to 1:00 PM, the Municipality of Monfalcone’s exhibition space will host an event dedicated to the Interreg Italy-Slovenia Programme 2021-2027 and the projects funded under this European framework. The Municipality of Monfalcone is a partner in several projects funded by the Interreg Italy-Slovenia Programme and will dedicate the morning to presenting these initiatives.
The event is part of the celebrations for Interreg Cooperation Day (IC Day), an annual initiative dedicated to promoting European territorial cooperation. Each year, around September 21, Interreg programmes and projects organize numerous events across Europe to showcase achievements and raise public awareness regarding the benefits of territorial cooperation.
Among the highlights of the day will be MARE SUPERUM, dedicated to enhancing nautical heritage and making it more accessible, aiming to transform the maritime heritage of the area into a shared, sustainable, and inclusive tourist resource. The project explores places and routes off the traditional circuits and strengthens the connection between territories, communities, and sea culture. It links tradition, boat restoration, and innovation, with the goal of promoting a more inclusive and accessible use of nautical heritage, including for people with motor disabilities. Special attention will be given to the boats built and restored through the project. The work carried out to create a boat accessible to people with motor disabilities will be shown through a video and the testimony of the master shipwright. The University of Ljubljana will also present a vintage boat that will be restored as part of MARE SUPERUM and equipped with a platform to allow access for people with reduced mobility.
The programme will continue with the presentation of the synergy among four Interreg Italy-Slovenia projects dedicated to wildfire prevention: Karst Firewall 5.0, CROSS ALERT, FIRESAFENET, and KARST SAFE, with the participation of Italian and Slovenian project partners. The projects will present the activities they are carrying out on the ground to prevent and mitigate forest fires. The cooperation among these four projects has been selected by the European Commission as one of the six finalists of the “Project Slam 2026-2027” competition, a storytelling contest organized by Interact for Interreg programmes and projects.
